A high tech life safety manufacturing company required a comprehensive fire protection upgrade at their Skelmersdale facility. This challenging retrofit project involved working around existing manufacturing processes in a high bay storage warehouse, production areas, and offices with significant time constraints while maintaining continuous operations.
We delivered a comprehensive sprinkler system upgrade that transformed the facility’s fire protection capabilities. The project centered around upgrading the sprinkler system to warehouse, production areas, offices, carousels units and upgrading the water supplies with full NFPA 13 compliance, ensuring the highest level of fire protection for this critical manufacturing facility.
Our team completed a full fit-out of staff offices with both void and ceiling protection throughout the 2-storey office building, upgrading roof sprinkler protection within the warehouse with ESFR protection. We also fitted out workshop machine areas, kardex carousel units, and production offices with full sprinkler coverage all in accordance with NFPA 13. The project also involved a complete replacement of water supplies, removal and replacement of the existing sprinkler tank, upgrading and replacing the existing fire pumps, and installation of temporary water supplies to enable the existing sprinkler tank and pump house to be decommissioned whilst maintaining a fully operational sprinkler system for the duration of the works and specifically to give full cover while the existing water supplies were offline for 16 weeks.
Our Project Manager, Lee Keating, said “Really challenging retrofit project where we had to work around existing manufacturing processes, high bay storage warehouse with some really challenging time constraints.. All whilst having to work around our customer’s people as they continue to fully operate for the duration of our retrofit project.”
Hall & Kay’s overall delivery of what was an extremely challenging project was exceptional, we had a very good group of people who helped keep our operations active during the project duration
